TPFF 2016: WA Born
One of the major events on the Perth Fashion Festival calendar was the Colosoul group’s “WA Born” fashion event, which showcases some of the very best collections from a multitude of Perth designers.
Lining up down a poorly lit alleyway to get our names ticked off the guest list, we entered the Perth European Prestige Auto Service, which was completely unrecognizable, an array of fairy lights and floral decorations donned the all white entrance. Once inside we were greeted with a complementary glass of Champagne, the same lighting and floral displays were a continuous theme. My guest and I made our way to the catwalk where many Perth bloggers and fashion elite were already seated, eagerly awaiting the nights main runway event.
The evening commenced with a small documentary about Colosoul and the work they undertake within the community- providing Perth’s youth with the opportunity to engage in practical experience within the area of media, graphic design, marketing and fashion. A second documentary was also shown, which highlighted how the WA Born fashion event proceeds will aid the Organ Donation and Transplant Foundation of WA.
The event was emceed by 2016 My Kitchen Rules contestant Jordan Bruno (who was looking very dapper in his designer suit). With WA Born officially underway, spectators were dazzled by various unique fashion displays, some more quirky than others. A personal highlight was Kate Hannah’s collection; I found this particular designer incorporated an immense burst of colour into her extremely modern collection. I loved the versatility of the garments, from the elegant dresses to the more relaxed pieces of clothing; I also found Kate Hannah’s collection really complimented the models figures.
Once the main runway event had finished, our emcee encouraged us to get the drinks flowing and mingle with our fellow guests, models, and designers. After indulging in some Perth celebrity spotting, I got to meet the face of WA Born for 2016, 20-year-old model Lara Kitchen. Due to her own personal struggle (being diagnosed with alopecia at age 14), Lara truly embodies the acceptance of personal imperfections. This amazing young lady has such a prosperous future ahead of her, I could not think of anyone better to be the face of WA Born. Overall I found the event to highlight what talented designers, and thriving fashion scene we have in Perth; I can definitely see why this is a sellout event.
