Record Store Day 2014: Perth Edition

Record Store Day 2014: Perth Edition

Yeeeeeeaaaaah.

Record Store Day is coming again this Saturday, April 19th, and with it, a slew of choice pickings from artists as diverse as Nirvana and Slipknot available at various stores about Perth. With plenty of well-established stores around Perth, (and some established chains trying to sell records…JB…) where will be the best places to find the gem, hang, chill and soak in vibes?

It’s great to see almost all of the stores celebrating the day with specials across the board as well as live music, DJs, beers and most importantly crates and crates of the good stuff! Details will be updated as I hear of them.

Not in no particular order (alphabetical because I wish to be impartial):

Amber from 78s made this sweet poster for all of the Perth CBD stores. So maybe Fat Shans is open for Record Store Day?

78 Records

As usual 78s are getting in a bunch of Record Store Day releases, which have begun drip-feeding from their facebook page. They are also offering a huge 15% off non-RSD exclusive items, as well as all purchases made between 9am and 12am going into a raffle to win some vouchers. Expect this to be one of the biggest stockers of RSD releases, as well as the host of some great sales. Will there be another rooftop gig?

Dada Records

Dadas will be hosting one of their infamous gigs. Featuring Night Signals, Rag n' Bone, Fabian Rojas, Mitchell Freeway, Craig McElhinney and Tourist Kid AND more to be announced. Music runs from 1PM until 6, BYO and check the event out here! 'Oldman Dada' has assured us he has his racks fully stocked, a huge US order just in time!

Fat Shan Records

Closed for renos methinks?

Junction Records

Mills Records

Mills will be doing some awesome stuff in Freo this Saturday. Featuring some 'great local artists' and album signing oppurtunities, this has pricked my interest! Sales etc.etc.

Offering 10% off the price of all non-RSD LPs, as well as a large amount of exclusive RSD stock Planet will also be spinning some sweet tunes all day long. Those racks are full, people.

Safari’s Record Shack

Located BEHIND A FREAKING FLOWER SHOP in Arcade 189 on William St. in Northbridge is this little gem of a store. Stocking a very different selection of genres than what is usually available in Perth, Safari's have been stocking up on some sweet sweet second hand releases, and offering discounts on most other stock. Beers, music and good times will be offered all day. A select few RSD releases are also available here. Plus, every purchase gets a raffle ticket for the $100 shop voucher!

Urban Records

Urban Records, on Oxford St. in the heart of Leederville are having some great specials. 10% off all non-RSD LPs, plus further discounts on some selected records. Also running is a great special with their new Pro-Ject turntables, buy a record player and get a free LP!

Some of the releases I’m really excited about are local releases from the likes of Oscar Key Sung and  Tame Impala, among other national and international releases from The Kite String Tangle, Sky Ferreira, Deep Purple, Outkast, King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard and rare compilations for days!
