Record Store Day 2017: Our top picks, what to get, and where to get them
Another year, another Record Store Day! For the tenth year running, stores across the world will be jam-packed with exclusive releases, specials, and shows. There is a lot to sink your teeth into this time around, so make sure you get into your local store on April 22 to grab yourself something nice. A full list of the 563 exclusive releases on offer can be found on the official Australian website, but to help you out, here's a list of some of the offers that have us frothing. - American punks Against Me! have two new tracks out on a limited 7" picture disk ("Stabitha Christie"/"First High Of The Morning").
- André 3000 (of Outkast fame) will release an eclectic cover of The Beatles (All Together Now) on 7" vinyl, backed by an instrumental version.
- Animal Collective will be putting out an EP of new material, titled Meeting of the Waters.
- Babymetal's Metal Resistance will be released on an exclusive RSD picture disk.
- Ben Folds will issue a vinyl release of his 2005 live collaboration with the West Australian Symphony Orchestra, including two previously unreleased recordings from the live shows.
- Bruce Springsteen's Hammersmith Odeon, London '75 show will be put out for a limited vinyl release.
- The Cocteau Twins will be reissuing their last two albums (Four Calendar Cafe and Milk & Kisses) on coloured vinyl.
- The Cure will release their 2001 Greatest Hits compilation (and its acoustic counterpart) for the first time on vinyl.
- "Ain't it Funny", a highlight from Danny Brown's 2016 album Atrocity Exhibition, will be given its own 10" picture disk, also featuring three alternate versions and "Worth It", his collaboration with electronic artist Clams Casino.
- There's plenty on offer for David Bowie fans, including the posthumous EP No Plan on blue vinyl, a reproduction of an early GEM promo and a previously unreleased live recording from Los Angeles on 5th September, 1974 (Cracked Actor).
- Jamiroquai's long-awaited new album Automaton will be put out on clear vinyl.
- Kevin Morby is releasing a new single "Beautiful Strangers", with a cover of Townes Van Zandt's 'No Place To Fall' on the B-Side. Every purchase of these two songs will go to support the work of Everytown For Gun Safety.
- Madonna will be releasing Dance Mix, a rare EP originally released in South America only, on 12" vinyl.
- Perth's own Methyl Ethel will be putting out a 7" record featuring two never before heard songs ("Architecture Lecture/Lagotto Romagnolo"), limited to just 1000 copies worldwide.
- Motörhead will be releasing a lot of things, including their self-titled album on vinyl and picture disk, What's Words Worth? on picture disk and Clean Your Clock on vinyl.
- Decade, one of the classic Neil Young compilations, will finally be reissued on vinyl.
- A previously unheard Pink Floyd recording from 1966 titled "Interstellar Overdrive" will be released on 12" vinyl. The 11 minute recording will come complete with a fold-out poster and postcard, with artwork from Peter Curzon. Pink Floyd will also be dropping a 50th Anniversary Edition Picture Disc of the band's first ever recordings from the classic line-up (London 1966/1967).
- Several artists will be giving the works of Primal Scream the remix treatment on a new EP titled Mixamatosis. Lynchmob and Brendan Lynch and the Anton Newcombe feature.
- Six Prince singles (including "I Wish U Heaven" and "Pop Life" with The Revolution) will be reissued on vinyl, "Little Red Corvette" will be given its own picture disk (with "1999" on the B-Side).
- Australian pop icon Sia is releasing her This is Acting Spotify Sessions for the first time physically on vinyl.
- The Smiths will be releasing several unreleased demos.
- For the emo kids, Sunny Day Real Estate will be reissuing their (assumedly) final album, 2000's The Rising Tide.
- The War on Drugs will release their first bit of new music since 2014's acclaimed Lost in the Dream. Titled "Thinking of a Place", the two-part single will be put out on 12" vinyl.

- Urban Records in Leederville will be stocking some of the limited edition items aforementioned. They will be offering 10% off all CDs and LPs, headphones, stylus and selected record players, and every purchase will put you in the running for an Audio Technica LP60 turntable, worth $249!
- Discography Vinyl in Beaconsfield will be offering plenty of exclusives and plan for some live music, stay tuned!
- Midland Records will be discounting a stack of selected LPs, and you can look forward to finding plenty of the RSD exclusives on their shelves too.
- Junction Records in Fremantle will be offering a 10-50% discount on selected new and used LPs (not including RSD releases), plus discounts on selected turntables and the chance to win a $50 voucher. They will also be stocking a stack of RSD exclusives.
- Rhubarb Records in East Vic Park has some exclusive copies of the new Mt. Mountain album, "Dust" (SOLD OUT online) in store, among their usual killer selection of vinyl and cassette tapes.
- For those in regional WA, Soundwaves Music in Margaret River and Bunbury Hi-Fi will also be participating with RSD exclusives, while the latter are also promising some bonus live music.
- And of course, Dada Records - One of Perth's oldest institutions. Over the years, proprietor Rob Samson had fostered the development of some of Perth's best artists. Rob has a selection of in-store specials on both levels. As usual, it's under wraps and on a first come first served basis.
