78 Records
78s. Even your mum knows this store exists. One of Perth's first proper record stores, it is as much a symbol of alternative culture in Perth as it is a physical store; just look at all the hipsters with their tote bags.
The store, now located on Murray Street Mall, opposite the Perth Underground Train Station, boasts a large collection of vinyl, from blues and roots, through to punk and hip-hop, organized into genres (amen) which makes browsing easy.
78s cater for most genres fairly equally, as well as boasting a 'pop' (and by pop I mean pop on vinyl, so; alternative) section which would take a good few hours to peruse. I found countless titles I wanted; The Used's self-titled effort (I used to love 'emo'), Grinderman's debut LP, Queens of the Stone Age's self-titled and 20-something other titles I desired. Most titles are moderately priced too.
However, the store not only caters to vinyl-junkies, as a huge CD section, including some rarer/genre-specific gems you wouldn't find elsewhere, tees and ticket sales round out the store. Oh, and record players. It's basically a one-stop-shop for all of your music needs.
