ZAN releases single 'Salafi Secrets'
Smooth, soulful, flowing, bright. Four words that only scratch the surface of describing ZĀN's new song ‘Salafi Secrets’.
ZĀN is an Australian/Pakistani musician currently residing in Perth expressing himself through his own electronic style of production — by infusing electronica, jazz and RnB, to subtly express his queerness and difference in society in his own unique way.
A proud member of the LGBTQ community, ZĀN’s ‘Salafi Secrets’ discusses the struggle of being gay within his Islamic community, whilst yearning for freedom from holding his secrets. Lyrically, the song also explores metaphors of hiding desires and wanting to explode his truth to the world — using well known phrases of ‘in the closet’ intertwined with his Islamic sect of Salafi Sunni’s hence the title ‘Salafi Secrets’.
Musically, the song's dynamics also explore this explosion of truth, from its conception of obscurity in the beginning to its absolute liberation in the choruses, a colourful and bright section full of excitement and bliss.
Bright, boiling with excitement and passionate best describes ‘Salafi Secrets’, the latest song from Australian/Pakistani producer and singer/songwriter ZĀN.
