Migos and 6lack at Metro City
In the final performance of Atlanta trap trio Migos’ first ever tour of Australia and New Zealand, the hip hop stars joined a recent plethora of artists from the new music capitol of Atlanta to perform in Perth, including Future, king of the kids Lil Yachty, producer-extraordinaire Metro Boomin’ and darkwave dutchess ABRA, all of which we’ve covered in previous reviews!
The three Migos consist of Quavo, who is currently believed to be working on a collaborative album with Travis Scott, and Quavo’s relatives; cousin Offset and nephew Takeoff.
The trio have blown up in recent times, with the chart-topping and Lil Uzi featuring Bad and Boujee and latest album Culture propelling them into trap stardom. They even had a hilarious cameo in Donald Glover’s golden globe winning show ‘Atlanta’, acting as fictional versions of themselves.
Glover also gave them a shout out in his award speech, declaring that he’d "like to thank the Migos — not for being on the show, but for making ‘Bad and Boujee… Honestly, that song is just fly. There's no better song to have sex to."
Despite being on a Tuesday evening, a 2000 strong sell-out crowd showed up to get a taste of Atlanta talent, with the Migos being joined by popular R&B trap artist 6lack (pronounced ‘black’) and Quavo-lookalike Dj Duran.
After waiting in anticipation for what seemed like an eternity, the crowd went wild at the sight of Dj Duran, many presumably mistaking him for Quavo himself! But after warming everyone up, the Migos finally exploded on to the stage with one of their best songs from Culture, ‘Get Right Witcha.’
Quavo was looking particularly fly, clad in all red attire and wearing a bomber jacket with jeans. The rap group piped things up with some huge tracks, predominantly from their Culture album.
The songs that really turned the heat up were ‘Slippery’, a collaborative track with trap legend Gucci Mane, ‘What’s the Price’, ‘Deadz’ featuring 2 Chainz, ‘Kelly Price’ featuring Travis Scott, ‘T-shirt’, a cover of Drake’s ‘Digital Dash’ and of course, ‘Bad and Boujee.’
The night had a great atmosphere with lots of energy, ending at 11:30 with an explosion of streamers and confetti raining down on the pumped up audience. It was a crammed occasion, with the Migos attempts to form a mosh pit failing because there simply wasn’t any room to budge.
But despite the tight squeeze and the Tuesday night setting, it was a wicked evening, with the smooth 6lack the ideal warm up for the three Migos. Both artists showcased why they’re among the most popular artists out of a city that’s quickly taking over the charts.
