Daft Punk - 'Random Access Memories'

Ever since I can remember, Daft Punk have always been in my music library. From tracks like 'Around the world' to 'Da Funk' Daft Punk have always made me want to dance. A few weeks prior to 'Random Access Memories' released, the world got a taste of what was to come. 'Get Lucky' was that taste, at first I hated it, then after hearing it again and again my opinion slowly changed. I started to discover and enjoy the love child of funk and electro. This new Daft Punk had started well.

When I purchased the album I was apprehensive so I left it for a few days, I waited to hear what my friends thought. As the feedback came piling in it all led to one answer. The world loved it. Of course that in no way meant I would love it, so I put it on my Ipod and whilst commuting to work I played the first track, 'Give Life Back To Music', then I turned it off. I looked down, double checking that I had picked the right album, the right artist. I had. I travelled without music that day, then after a long conversation with a close friend I was talked back into giving it another chance.

Then it happened. I started to accept that this was the future of Daft Punk. 'Random Access Memories' began revealing the love child within. The combinations of funk and electronic beats were incredible, the synthesisers buzzed in my ears perfectly combining the two very different genres. Of course with every album there are stand out tracks. A personal favourite being 'Giorgio by Moroder', this track opens with what sounds like an interview in a restaurant with Giorgio Moroder a pioneer of electronic music, and turns into one of Daft Punk's finest pieces. The album as a whole gels together quite well,  with tracks like 'Lose yourself to dance', 'Motherboard' and 'Contact' really bringing back the old school Daft Punk feel while still dropping in the flavours of funk and the future of Daft Punk. Of course there are songs I would still skip, lets face it every album has them. 'The game of love' was one of those songs. This song honestly sounded like an intro to a porno that slowly turns into a cheesy love story. In it's own way this song sounds like a tribute to the break up of the old Daft Punk with the new and it does not sound pretty.

If you are a real lover of Daft Punk's previous albums then 'Random Access Memories' may be a little hard to get into, but believe me that when you do you'll love it. 'Random Access Memories' will be an album that you can sit with your friends or family and enjoy with a few drinks, in the capable hands of Daft Punk setting the mood.
