The Lumineers - 'The Lumineers'
We've all heard Ho Hey (if you haven't youtube, now) but what is the rest of The Lumineers stuff like? Well judging by this album, Ho Hey wasn't a fluke. Their style is distinctly American, but still very accessible to those of us lucky enough not to be American (I can say that, right?). They discuss everything they should on a debut; love, friendship and all the things in between.
It is definitely obvious that Wesley Schultz (lead vocals/guitar) and Jeremiah Fraites (drums/percussion) have been working together on this for a very long time as they bounce of each other in every song. Neyla Pekarek (vocals/cello) is a point of difference to many bands in this genre, she complements Schultz heavy lead subtly and adds a very feminine touch to the overall sound.
An easy way to explain this would be if Mumford and Sons, Angus and Julia Stone and the Black Keys had an orgy and then decided to make their babies all be in a band together and raised them in Colorado. But in all seriousness, I am not predicting The Lumineers to be a one hit wonder, it will obviously take a lot to match Ho Hey's success commercially, but purely in terms of making more quality music, I expect there to be a lot more albums by this little band from Colorado.
