Feb 3 Film Review: Ben Affleck's "Live By Night" is a formless affair

Rhys Tarling
Screen Nation

Ben Affleck's fourth writer/directorial effort Live By Night is his first major misstep as a writer/director. Affleck directs with such a stultifying hand that there's no blood, no oxygen to the film; no suggestion that the world is so much bigger than what we're seeing on the screen.

Feb 2 FRINGE REVIEW: Peter and Bambi Heaven, The Magic Inside

Rachel Yeo
Fringe, Live Nation

Residing from the Gold Coast, the deluded duo embody nothing but pure chaos. It was an uproarious night; cue sequins, high-energy dancing, comical exchanges and plentiful shenanigans. If anything, it was a Greek tragedy of epic proportions.

Feb 2 FRINGE REVIEW: Lyall Brooks Gives a Tour de Force Performance in A Prudent Man

Daniel Morey
Fringe, Art Nation

A Prudent Man is a cleverly written and performed play that never tells you what to think, but gives you a lot to think about. Lyall Brooks is a convincing actor, and the never slaps you in the face with any sort of moral (or even story), but trusts the viewers to understand by sprinkling snippets of information to piece together.

Jan 29 Film Review: Bunker Thriller “Split” is M Night Shyamalan at his best - and his absolute worst

Howie Ng

Despite its inherent flaws, Split is a well-executed psychological thriller that signals the return of M Night Shyamalan as a unique Hollywood storyteller.

Jan 28 FRINGE REVIEW: BLANK

Katie Bennett

A script full of blanks? One could say it is slightly better in theory than in reality but I can assure you there is much to be gained from this exploration of mortality and the human condition.

It's always a pleasure to have Neel return each year for the annual Fringe World Festival, but 2017's debut of his new stand up show #ObjectifyNeel deems Perth lucky indeed.

Jan 28 FRINGE REVIEW: Ben Darsow Off The Cuff

James Versluis
Fringe, Live Nation

As its title suggests, the majority of the show is completely improvised, relying solely on punter interaction to drive the show forward. It’s this kind of acrobat-on-a-tightrope type comedy show that makes proceedings all the more thrilling to watch.

Rhys Tarling
Screen Nation

To some degree or another, we are all like Moonlight's taciturn protagonist, in that we're wearing a veil of loneliness to shield ourselves from the world's cruelties. Moonlight pierces that veil.
