The Palace Society unveils their eagerly-awaited program for FRINGE WORLD 2018
Presented by JumpClimb (the team behind five-time award winning venue Noodle Palace) and spanning eight established and brand new Perth venues, this year’s lineup is offers a diverse mix of acts and genres with some old favourites and fresh faces.
After ten years of producing shows all around the world, France's award-winning raconteur Marcel Lucont will join The Palace Society ranks, interviewing different guests every night in his own unique style. Expect top festival names, bawdy badinage, classy sex poetry and a house band.
New to the circus explosion? Lunar Circus will be putting on a spectacle for the whole family, with children’s and matinee performances from the very best performers in the business. Hilarious comedy capers by comedians and clowns, flying trapeze artists and magic in the air, Circus Palace will barely contain all the circus artistry on offer. The Kids Comedy Gala is one to look out for, along with The Circus Cabaret Show - it's circus at its finest.
If you’re looking to have your funny bone tickled, look no further than Best Comedy Fringe World 2017 winner Josh Glanc with his brand new hour of surreal, exhilarating comedy Karma Karma Karma Karma Karma Chamedian, and the Soothplayers with their completely improvised performances of the wizarding world of a certain scarred teenager (it’s Harry Potter) and, well, Shakespeare himself.
Making her Perth debut, critically acclaimed British character comedian Anna Morris will walk punters down the aisle with her international sell-out wedding comedy that took Adelaide and Melbourne by storm in 2017. Meet Britain’s biggest bridezilla, Georgina, in It’s Got To Be Perfect, as she takes you on an emotional roller-coaster in her journey to get hitched.
Announced last week as part of the early-release initiative, program highlights also include award winning magician and the ever-charming Matt Tarrant who will reveal his new show Unsolved to the Perth public, promising mystery, mayhem and utter magic in his mentalism.
Comedy Hypnotist Matt Hale will join Tarrant leading the way forward, returning after his runaway-hit seasons at FRINGE WORLD in 2016 and 2017 with a brand new show to tantalise the senses and entertain the mind with Mindfoolness.
Comedic gem Dave Callan will also return to the Fringe forefront, backed by his dancers in a one hour, pop culture riddled display. Following Callan in the diva displays will be the multi-award winning seven foot GLAMONSTER - experience Gingzilla live on stage as her amazing voice and legs for days leave you begging for more, a true jewel in The Palace Society crown.
To keep you on your toes and already an ‘irreplaceable’ act, you’re invited to party with the divas of Bey Dance. This Beyonce-obsessed event features special guests, a raging dance floor and, most importantly, a breakdown of all of Bey's most iconic dance moves. Did we mention there may be some babies involved? Bond with your new tiny human in Baby Wearing with Bey Dance, a chance to boogie down, with your newborn along for the ride!
Joining the Bey-bies in running amok, Pierre Ulric’s A Fabulous Teleportation Experiment will create magic for the whole family, as we question whether or not he is actually able to teleport within Circus Palace. All will be revealed in this dynamic show that is part magic and illusion, part science and all fun!
In case you still haven’t satisfied your comedy fix, Strange People Comedy Club, Michael Shafar’s Kosher Bacon and Joey Page’s Pretty Boy are guaranteed to do the trick. Each comedic cult hero expresses their absurd views of the mainstream, guaranteeing each performance is light hearted, incredibly funny and more than a little weird.
To experience something entirely different, the Perth public are encouraged to take part in Séance, an intense sonic performance that lasts for 15 terrifying minutes inside a pitch black shipping container. Revel in your sixth sense as Séance finds a new home in the Noodle Palace surrounds at Elizabeth Quay.
The ladies won’t be tamed in this Fringe line-up, with the fight of the century presenting itself at Ibis Palace. Two very-British ladies obsessed with professional wrestling battle it out in I’m Okayfabe, pinning down what is to be a woman. Both will enter the Fringe arena with only one winner in sight - the audience.
After full runs at the Edinburgh, Prague and Adelaide Fringe, award-winning Norwegian Viggo Venn will also return to Perth with an hour of absurd physical comedy, as will London based giraffe-limbed clown Elf Lyons, with her distinctive style and enchanting storytelling.
