Vancouverites Black Mountain return with album IV & Australian Tour
Known for their spellbinding performance quality and genre-defying back catalogue, Black Mountain reinforces my argument that all good things are Canadian. After a lengthy absence, the band is returning to Australia in October (YAS YAS YAS!!!)
After relocating to sunnier West Coast climates, and taking time for alternate projects (like scoring the film Year Zero in 2012) the five piece returned to recognition with IV. It is the product of close collaborations with Sunn O))), Wolves In The Throne Room, Marissa Nadler and producer Randall Dunn and has already received enthusiastic positive response from press and patient fans.
Black Mountain channels Sabbath’s harshness via Floyd’s soundscapes in IV. Harnessing the fundamentals of 70’s hard rock, laced with fuzz and psychedelics. They demand attention with gargantuan bass riffs thanks to master bassist, Arjan Miranda and dueling guitarist Stephen McBean. Bringing celestial tones and lusty harmonies so effortlessly is vocalist Amber Webber, who proves her vocal dexterity throughout IV. The backbone via percussion is drummer, Joshua Wells, with finishing touches to Black Mountain’s pastel drone clan, from the multi-coloured synth wizard Jeremy Schmidt. IV and the colossal back catalogue of Black Mountain is sure to expand minds sonically and emotionally of all curious lucid dreamers and diehards that pilgrimage to shows.
Expect engulfing aural fuzz, deep bass notes throbbing in your chest cavity and a profoundly enchanting show. The people over at Cool Perth Nights will present the show on Saturday October 8 at the Rosemount Hotel. The show will most definitely sell out so get your tickets here.
