Theatre Review: "Unveiling: Gay Sex for Endtimes" has to be seen to be believed
Strap on, folks! You're in for the ride of your life. Artistically jarring from the get-go, and mind-blowing till the very end Unveiling: Gay Sex for Endtimes is potentially the most hilarious jaw-dropping piece of convention-defying theatre Perth has ever seen (since its last season). Renegade Productions are really living up to their name with this one.
Welcome to the land of metaphor and symbolism where clothes are optional and bodily fluids flow freely, forever and ever amen. In an absurdist take on the book of Revelation Joe Lui calls to question all that is deemed hedonistic and all that is deemed holy. Un-labellable and altogether indescribable, Unveiling has to be seen to be believed**.
Impeccable performances by Andrew Sutherland, Michelle Aitken & Jacinta Larcombe in all their glory as they bound between myth and the all too real state of our society's politics tackling gender, sexuality and love along the way. They will leave you feeling naked, yet accepted, in the strangest but somewhat comfortable way.
Unveiling is a fast pace demolition of all the western world holds dear, paired with bright lights, poetry in motion and as many glasses of house wine as you need. Almost entirely up to interpretation you will leave the theatre wondering for weeks; what's with all the eggs? Will I ever stop singing Glory Glory Hallelujah? Where is Judy Garland now?
The end (of the season) is nigh! Get your tickets before it's too late.
Unveiling is at The Blue Room Theatre until the 24th of August.
