Milky Chance and The Wombats Announce Headline Shows
This is not a drill. I repeat, this is not a drill.
It's no secret anymore — two of Australia's most loved acts have locked in their plans to traverse the continents and pay our shores a well-deserved visit. Secret Sounds are insanely delighted (and so are we!) to welcome back Milky Chance and The Wombats, for a run of headline shows this May. Here's what the latter have to say:
“Hey Australia, so we're playing Groovin' the Moo this year and we thought whilst we were over it would be rude not to do some sideshows as we're celebrating 10 years since the release of our 1st album! Our 1st baby is 10, we can't believe how much he's grown. We look forward to having a few massive birthday parties for the little blighter. Hope you can make it! - PS New music coming this year!”
The Wombats
Looks like Christmas came early!* Though The Wombats aren't exactly native to Australia, there's no denying the effervescent love affair our nation has with the lovable trio. From selling out and upgrading multiple shows across the country to delivering vivacious sets at The Falls Music and Arts Festival, Groovin’ the Moo and Splendour in the Grass, there's no limit to our love for these Brits.
2017 marks a decade since the release of The Wombats' debut record, A Guide To Love, Loss & Desperation, and every album since has proved more and more infectious than ever. The boys have continued to blow us out of the water with innumerous gems of tracks ranging across the board, loaded with savvy pop culture references and coming-of-age observations. So whether you've stuck around since the first EP, or are more acquainted with more recent works (think the modern masterpieces known as This Modern Glitch and Glitterbug), this is most certainly a party* — and we want you there. Come celebrate The Wombats and all the greatest, nostalgic hits they've had to offer over the years.
(*A++ if you pick up the references)
Milky Chance
Remember when 'Stolen Dance' emerged out of nowhere and took the world by storm? The track was a multi-platinum global hit, having earned ecstatic praise from all over the world and landing itself a place as #4 in triple j's Hottest 100 (circa 2014). Gentle, seamless, folky, and electronic — the men behind Milky Chance just seem to make the fusion work. The last time the duo were in the country they played two sold-out shows in Sydney and Melbourne, as well as massive festival slots at Falls, Southbound as well as Field Day, with many hailing the psychedelic folk act as ‘stand outs’ of the 2014 festival circuit.
After two years of solid touring — including playing some of the world's most sizeable festivals — the German duo emerged late last year with their single 'Cocoon', and much more recently, 'Doing Good', to signal the fast-approaching arrival of their new album, Blossom. With the album well in the works, Milky Chance will be playing a string of headline sideshows in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and (you guessed it) Perth!
