PREVIEW: Julien Baker is Set to Enthral Perth in December
We have some more awesome news for our Perth readers- For the first time, staff favourite Memphis class act Julien Baker is heading on an Australian tour, including a date in Fremantle!
Julien Baker, known in some circles as the frontwoman for Forrister, released her critically acclaimed debut album Sprained Ankle in 2015, a record of quiet contemplation and introspection that captured hearts worldwide. It’s a confronting, yet cathartic listen as she sings about God, substance abuse, trips to the hospital and letting down friends with a powerful, captivating voice over sparse, ethereal arrangements. Her fan base has been growing steadily, and she’s toured with a diverse array of acts from The National, Daughter and Band of Horses to Touché Amoré (whom she’s recently featured on a track with).
Her live shows have drawn as much acclaim as her album. Performing alone on stage, she commands the attention of the audience with an entrancing aurora. The LA Times are fans, describing her show as: “Completely transfixing. It proved that even in today's ramped-up pop climate, it is possible to hold a room's breath still with just a voice and guitar.” It comes as no surprise that she has also been a standout at the likes of SXSW, Primavera Sound and Newport Folk Festival. If you’re still not swayed or you just want to get extra hyped, check out the video below of her performing on Audiotree Live.
Baker’s debut Australian tour will see her perform nine dates across the country, including the mammoth Fairgrounds Festival in New South Wales. Western Australian fans can see her on the 1st of December 2016 at the Fremantle Arts Centre. Tickets and details are available here thanks to Love Police Touring. Joining her on tour will be Emma Russack, who will be promoting her new album In a New State. We at Isolated Nation are stoked at this announcement, and we highly recommend checking this out- she may well be your new favourite artist... Just bring your own tissues.
