Southbound 2016 Update: Stagebound Winners Announced, Set Times and Maps
The winners of Stagebound 2016 have been announced! Two great WA bands have been announced to play at Southbound Festival 2016. South West’s alt-rock, reggae outfit Great Gable (partnered by Manjimump-Bridgtown Times) and Perth’s indie surf rockers Slick Monks (partnered by the Sound Telegraph).
Hailing from the beachy southern suburbs of Perth, Jack Cooper, Jack Ward and Vincent Bochat make up the rock trio Slick Monks who started out together in the winter of 2014. The band has enjoyed playing all over Perth in popular live music venues such as Jack Rabbit Slims, The Rosemount Hotel, Mojos Bar and winning Rockingham’s Battle of the Band Competition in October 2014. On the 27th of March 2015 Slick Monks released their debut EP – Clear Milk with ‘Spaghetti Maze’ being their popular first single. “Loving the slurry, desperate vocal in the chorus plus this lyric: ‘And the smell on my jumper is the only thing that stays’” – Hope: Don’t Need No Melody. The band has been likened to Nirvana, the Humbug era of Arctic Monkeys with a splash of surf rock, at times getting as heavy as Black Sabbath with some songs sounding like “Franz Ferdinand but darker” – Ted Rogan: The Equal Ground
Hailing from the South West of Australia, Great Gable infuses alt-rock with reggae and blues, accompanied by velvet smooth melodically-focused vocals. Starting out late-2014 as Alex Whiteman (Vocals/Guitar) and Matt Preen (Lead Guitar), Great Gable had a rotating rhythm section until Brandon Richards (Bass) and Callum Guy (Drums) joined in mid-2015 to complete the lineup. Great Gable has since taken massive strides in a short period of time. After entering and winning the State final of the National Band Campus competition in September 2015, Great Gable headed to Sydney for the National final. They placed second within Australia. Great Gable are now recording their debut single ‘Leave Your Way’ due for release in October/November with an impending South West tour in December and will also be working on their debut EP over the coming months.
The set times and map have also dropped for the 3-day festival which kicks off on Friday 8 January 2016.
