PIAF - Bianco: Ozone Reserve until March 1

PIAF is my favourite time of the year. NoFit State Circus hit Perth for the first time this week with an incredible performance under a big top at Ozone Reserve. Bianco was a journey and insight into the circus world, its function and the rapports between performers. The ensemble boasts performers from all corners of the globe who create large-scale aerial performances, with the best of theatre and live music to create a high energy among audiences.

The “beaut” performance centered around four main blocks of scaffolding, where the performers would either create a stage for the solo acts, or perform on the scaffolding itself. Each soloist was incredible in their own rite, but what was more captivating and fantastic, was the behind the scenes work that the other performers undertook in order to support the soloist. This is something that was distinctive for Bianco, as it was a 360 degree performance there was no “back stage” or “behind the scenes” work, it was all on show for everyone to see so they had to do it in an entertaining manner. While the straps artist was winding up and down his apparatus, there was a counterpart, acting as a weight, to support him in his delivery. Other memorable moments, included the aerial/acro-balance act of Elena Burani (pictured above), and tight-wire walker Ariele Ebacher who hypnotized us with a half strip tease/half dance routine on high wire.

The circus was simply well organized chaos. From ushers moving the audience back and forth and around, to the performers all working together to move scaffolding to create the stage- it was all entertaining. The sheer speed of the performers is something to be recognized. The adjustable stage’s own routine could potentially be seen as distracting however I saw it more of a Segway into the next act. Fire, snow, tears and joy, the production undoubtedly stimulated the senses. No doubt, no doubt – v.unique, much talent.

If you see one show this month, it has to be this one. It is on until March 1, with tickets available here.

Beaut outta 10.
