Fringe World Festival: EastEnd Caberet, Dirty Talk
Winners of the Adelaide Fringe 2012 ‘Best Cabaret’ award and internationally acclaimed comedy musical duo Eastend Cabaret are back in Perth for the Fringe Festival with their splendidly raunchy show Dirty Talk. Bernadette (Jennifer Byrne) and Victor Victoria (Victoria Falconer-Pritchard) show us their naughtiest and most intimate desires in a captivating spectacle of flirtatious antics that are guaranteed to make you laugh your pants (and underwear) off.
The night of revelry takes place under the spiegeltent situated in the quixotic settings of the Pleasure Gardens in James Square. Enter the makeshift tent and be transported by the iridescent blue haze, the wooden Guimardesque décor and the sound of the musical saw’s nostalgic tunes to a bygone era of speakeasies and vaudeville performers.
The show begins as Bernadette welcomes the audience to what will be a salacious night, riding down the center isle on her “man beast” to the stage where Victor Victoria, Bernadette’s hermaphrodite sidekick and not so secret admirer awaits devotedly to be introduced with assumed, but overlooked prestige. Bernadette conducts the show whilst Victor Victoria fleets around from piano, to accordion, from breast to celebrity pictures, devotedly attending to Bernadette’s absurd visions.
A highly libidinous chanteuse, Bernadette shares her most intimate, raunchy sexual encounters without restraint, making suggestions that will titillate your imagination with images of debauchery, impossible sex positions and public masturbation.
Victor Victoria brings the show together with her sexy come funky come hip hop tunes on the piano and piano accordion. More eccentric than her partner, Victor Victoria poses visions of futuristic inventions and steals the show sporadically as she vents her “sexual frustration” into her keyboard and sporadic breast fondling.
This entrepreneurial duo will attempt any kind of seductive ploy to swindle the audience into the world of their salacious antics. No seat is safe from Bernadette’s promiscuous eye or her determined perusals amongst the audience, especially since her microphone is cordless. She clambers through the seats of the audience at many points, flirting relentlessly with any man (or woman) that makes an unintentional provocative gesture.
Byrne and Victoria execute the show seamlessly with outrageously witty and catchy songs you’re sure to find yourself singing in the car. Whilst recalling their most filthy cravings and pastimes, the duo remain irresistibly hilarious and tantalizingly quick. Taboos are crushed and revamped into flamboyant celebrations of sexual desire and tales that you may find reluctantly relatable.
Call the baby sitter, get your lacy nickers on and head to the speigeltent to enjoy an erotic night with the most bizarre and horny duo you may see in Northbridge. You can catch the show until January 31 2014. Don’t miss it!
