Recently at Luna Leederville, local Perth production group Dolly Llama Productions (organised and led by Hassibullah Kushkaki) put on their second screening of 10 independent short films.
An incredible debut feature that heralds a genuine talent, BUGS follows a group of teenagers at high school as they plan their weekend and jostle for position in the complex hierarchy of teenage social networks.
A Ghost Story takes a cosmic scope, but I can’t help feeling that it could have been so much pure and meant so much more if the lens was microcosmic. A study of grief and loss of love with grounding by Rooney Mara’s solar-plexus thumping performance would have been a brilliant thesis statement in its honest simplicity
It is hard for me to find fault with this film, with everything coming together quite perfectly. The pacing never feels stale, even when the jokes require the film to move slower, and every joke hits the mark brilliantly
