FRINGE REVIEW: YOU'VE GOT MAIL

FRINGE REVIEW: YOU'VE GOT MAIL

Held in the cosy venue of The Studio at the Blue Room Theatre, You've Got Mail is an unexpected hour of so-bad-they're-good Hollywood tropes and plenty of laughs all round.

Following the charming Meg Ryan (Eloise Snape) as she navigates her way through the whole new world that is “the Internet”, this quirky cyber-parody is unconventional, to say the least, yet still somehow makes it work.

Somewhat true to the original, this play also features an increasingly crazed Tom Hanks (Chris Ratcliffe), aka Meg's online chat room buddy. As the story progresses, reality becomes a distant, fuzzy haze and our characters are sucked further and further into the cyber world — to the point that they're in a love triangle with the Internet.

The audience was extremely receptive to the various jokes and references, with the whole room laughing with every other line that came out of the performers' mouths. Snape and Ratcliffe were fantastic choices as leads for the show, with expert acting skills that had us giggling almost the whole time.

Writers/directors Ang Collins and Sarah Hadley have done a superb job at capturing today's modern feminist ideologies and executing them in this hilarious gem. You don't want to miss out on You've Got Mail - get your tickets here!
