After my personal hiatus with the Bakery, I returned, only to discover a long line on Thursday night, an assortment of breeds almost as if it were a gathering of different tribes. Ready to witness American sweetheart Ty Segall.
Ty Segall - 'Sleeper'
“Sleeper” was all about a shift in focus; emotionally, symbolically and stylistically. The electric guitar and distortion pedals were traded in for an acoustic guitar. With this album there was certainly more time to think and reflect.
Palma Violets - '180'
Palma Violets have only been kicking around for a couple of years, and the London quartet’s first release, 180, is definitely one worth hearing. The band have seemingly meshed grungy, washed out guitar, punk-style drums, plodding surf bass, 80’s post-punk vocals and both modern and classic keyboard to create an aural experiment that has paid off!
