INTERVIEW: Racka Chachi opens up the spotlight for Tesoro with single, ‘Dreams’

If you’ve been following the Perth scene for the past few years, you’ve probably been noticing the incline of Racka Chachi and their presence in the larger musical scene.

After releasing a number of music videos and singles, a sole member of the Racka Chachi affiliation has decided to step directly into the limelight, Tesoro.

Here’s our interview with Tesoro:

So, who is Tesoro?

Yellow, my name is Miguel, I am an artist from Perth who has sung, rapped and written at/in local Perth venues/houses for the last 3 years with my band and friends Racka Chachi. I make music and have been for a while. The music I compose and write draws influence from Soul II Soul, the Carpenters, George Benson, Kanye West, T Pain, Andrea Bocelli, Luther Vandross, Michael Jackson. I realise that a number of influences were unnecessary as well as this personal critic but these artists all influence separate parts of my music and life.

What has been your experience with Racka Chachi so far?

They have helped me to be comfortable with myself and the music I create. They’ve taught me a lot about how to approach the music scene from a realistic perspective and more than anything they’ve been a bloody amazing group of caring and thoughtful weirdo people who have supported me through thick and thin. I love those friggin guys!

What is the song ‘Dreams’ about?

Tesoro 2.jpeg

It is about splitting yourself through different social settings and being consciously aware of how someone might affect or be affected by the contrasting personality types and environments. It is also about coming to terms with the complexities of 21st-century life and the body’s inability to evolve and adapt simultaneously with the mind. Needless to say, I made the song during the covid quarantine but the idea for the song actually came to me in a dream about 2 years ago while I was camping in Collie.

Why are you launching a solo performance now?

I’m launching it now because I want to get some of the weirder music I obsess over making out of the way before I release the sensible music, that better reflects the apple and black current popular musical scene. Also, because people ask me to release it, and if they didn’t help my lethargic, easily distracted ass out then it’d probably just drift away into the iCloud oblivion and never be heard of again.

Should we be expecting anything in the future from either you or Racka Chachi?

The next tunes I’m releasing are more electronic R&B, soulful singer/songwriter and afro-dance vibes. The music will gradually sound different and also the same. With Racka, I’ve had a few collab songs in the making for a year or so and they’re pop/sampled r&b. I’m just really excited to start making somewhat of an impact on the music scene!
