Spoiler Nation: Could we finally get a Tyrion and Jaime reunion? Debriefing Game of Thrones 7x04, “The Spoils of War”

Hot damn. The shortest episode in GoT history is also easily one of the most epic, rivalling Hardhome and the Battle of the Bastards in terms of pure fantasy spectacle. On the latest episode of our Spoiler Nation podcast, we break down the latest Game of Thrones episode, “The Spoils of War”.

Aka the one where Dany's Targaryen blood runs so hot after suffering a string of losses that she decides to host her own Field of Fire barbecue. When the dragons are unleashed and setting folks ablaze, it's usually nameless slave masters we don't give a damn about who're on the wrong end of a dragon's roar.

But not this time! Just as soon as the Jamie and Bronn buddy comedy returns, they're fighting for their lives as a giant beast rains death from above. It's the masterstroke of this sequence that we're rooting for both sides to survive. You can't help but feel a giddy thrill when we're above, right in Dany's POV, as Drogon spews awesome jets of fire. And you can't help but feel slightly horrified at the site of charred corpses contributing their fair share of ash and blood to what looks like a literal hell on earth. And the Dothraki have rarely been more intimidating than when their galloping through the flames like it was nothing.

We'd also be remiss to not mention that we're treated to another Stark reunion, this time between Arya and Sansa. It was about as guarded as expected, given that they never had the best relationship and they're essentially greeting each other as strangers now. Bran still knows things he shouldn't, much to Littlefinger's hilarious astonishment, and Brienne is caught off guard. In other words, the down time stuff was just as jam-packed with goodness as the action scenes.

This is Game of Thrones firing on all cylinders.
