Since 1990, Bell Shakespeare has been the theatre company to catch a Shakespeare play from in Australia. Their consistently acclaimed productions have captivated audiences across the nation, elevating their status to become one of the most celebrated theatre companies in Australia.
This year, the company are bringing Othello to the stage, playing 27 different venues across the country beginning in July. The production will star Ray Chong Nee and Yalin Ozucelik in the iconic roles of Othello and Iago respectively. It was developed under the watchful eye of director Peter Evans in his first season as Bell Shakespeare's sole Artistic Director, so a riveting time is assured.
Othello remains one of Shakespeare’s most renowned tragedies, exploring universal issues like betrayal, love, ambition, envy and, yes, racism. The play centres on the tragic demise of the titular character as he turns from a celebrated warrior to a murderous fiend, fuelled by the deception of his friend Iago. It’s sure to challenge and touch audiences.
Perth thespians can catch this riveting production at the wonderful State Theatre Centre from the 17-20th of August. Elsewhere in WA, you can also catch the production in Albany on August 11 and Mandurah on August 13.
