Fringe Review: "Cassandra Barbitoll" captivates with charm, wit, and physical comedy

Cassandra Barbitoll is the brain-child of the wonderfully talented writer and performer Sophie Joske.

From the moment she stepped on stage, Joske captivated the audience with her charm, wit and complete mastery of physical comedy.

Although a solo performance, it feels like you are watching scores of characters. The stage is filled with a rag-tag bunch of low-life caricatures from cinema’s golden age, people who feel like they have stepped straight out of a Raymond Chandler novel. Of course, it doesn’t end there. There is the equally hilarious and terrifying dinosaur, and I can undoubtedly say that you will never see a more entertaining door opening in your life.

Joske’s comedic timing was impeccable, and the performance had emotion and vulnerability that kept me hooked. This show is also snappy, wrapping up in just 50 laughter-filled minutes.

5 out of 5 stars

Both talented and hard-working, Joske also has Sophie’s Slumber Party on at Fringe on the 28th and 29th of January.

Cassandra Barbitoll runs until the 29th of January, so I recommend you make it down if you have 50 minutes to spare, you won’t be disappointed. Tickets are available here: Cassandra Barbitoll | FRINGE WORLD Festival - 20 January - 19 February 2023
