FRINGE REVIEW: YUMMY UNLEASHED is an absolute must-see

Taking their five-star show from Melbourne to audiences around the world, the cast of YUMMY UNLEASHED has landed back in Perth for another exciting run at Fringe World Festival this year.

Last year saw the cast winning ‘Best Cabaret’ show, and it’s no wonder why. YUMMY UNLEASHED is the best of drag, gender fluidity and burlesque all rolled into one. While quite a few members of the opening night audience were returning guests, this didn’t stop the newcomers from going wild.

Dressed head to toe in stunning glittery costumes, the diverse five-person cast took turns to reveal their talents. Valerie Hex was our stunning emcee for the night, who kept spirits high throughout.

Coming in strong, Jandruze revealed the most sensual sandwich-making I’ve ever witnessed in my entire life – with one very lucky audience member getting himself involved! Hannie Helsden, on the other hand, carried the most radiant smile during all of her performances. From a mesmerising pole routine to her insane hula hoop act, she was every bit a star performer.

As the newest addition to the cast, Adam Malone did not disappoint. In a series of head-balancing, acro-swing stunts, he sustained an amazing control of his body to dazzle all. With all the excellent, energetic song choices there was simply no messing around. Between eccentric costume changes and sexy choreography, there was even a cheeky magician routine, stripteases and countless splits. The acclaimed Zelia Rose entertained many as well, with her take on burlesque pairing nicely with her fire eating skills.

Without giving much else away, YUMMY UNLEASHED truly turns cabaret on its head and is the must-see show this season. It’s outrageously delicious, stunning and hilarious. Rounding off with a ‘femme fatale finale’, the performative cast left off with an important message about gender fluidity – as well as climate change and initiating reform for the next generation.

In fact, I’m still dusting the glitter off myself – but who’s complaining?
