THEATRE REVIEW: Through the Looking Glass (and What Alice Found There) is a local MUST-SEE

Through the Looking Glass (and What Alice Found There) is an explosion of excitement, wonder and good old fashioned fun. Directed by Jordan Tabb and Assistant Director Sabrina Wyatt, this spectacular production was truly larger than life. With such a talented, passionate cast performing such an excitingly peculiar show, this was an immensely enjoyable and almost addictive watch.

Natalia Myslinska artfully captured the innocent curiosity of Alice, executing every movement and dialogue with believable emotion. Her role as leading lady was well deserved. The Red Queen (Amy Swerlowycz) and the White Queen (Kendra McGrady) perfectly balanced each other out with just the right amount of gracefulness and grouchiness, as well as silliness and sassiness. For me, personally, Tweedle-Dum (Rosalie Schneider) and Tweedle-Dee (Stephanie Beckham) truly stole the show, enrapturing the audience with their over-the-top clumsiness and unabashed frivolousness. What they displayed on stage was incredibly entertaining, yet at the same time, refreshingly genuine, inspiring and captivating.

Although the entire cast was truly outstanding, other names that simply must be mentioned include Mike Moshos as Humpty Dumpty, who executed his role with absolute confidence and brilliant comedic execution. The White Knight (Tomas Kenny-Simpson) and the Red Knight (Kate Manson) are also to be commended for their brilliant stage presence and acting ability. I applaud the entire cast for their teamwork, passion and talent - it's clear that the production was well-loved by all who were a part of it, which definitely played a big part in making the show so engaging and special.

The stage direction was brilliant, incorporating lights, shadows and other effects that really brought the whimsical setting to life. As well as this, the costumes were incredibly creative and eye-catching - colourful, bold and bright, fitting for all the actors, whose characters really shone through in such fantastic attire. With such a successful first production, it's clear that Jordan Tabb has a bright future of directing ahead of her, and I look forward to attending her future productions.
