Movies of the Month: May Preview

For our May edition, we've got books, franchises and even a highly intelligent Horror film - what more could you want!

Get Out

Directed by Jordan Peele

Release Date: 4th May at all mainstream cinemas

Jordan Peele, (of well-deserved Key&Peele fame) debuts his break into cinema this month with the much talked about Get Out. Chronicling the tale of a man meeting his girlfriend’s family for the first time, Get Out isn’t just a scary movie to go watch on a first date. It is more of a comedic commentary on the state of African American relations in the USA. Sounds heavy I know, but the film is just splendid and terrifying and hilarious all at the same time. Go see it.

The Zookeeper's Wife

Directed by Niki Caro

Release Date: 4th May at all mainstream cinemas

Starring the always wonderful Jessica Chastain (Zero Dark Thirty, The help), Diane Ackerman’s best-selling book detailing the real life events of a zookeeper and his wife who hide and save hundreds from the Nazis is brought to the big screen this May. Promising to be an inspiring film to cry to, we suggest you bring your mum and some tissues.

Alien: Covenant

Directed by Ridley Scott

Release Date: 11th May at all mainstream cinemas

After a hopeful but slightly underwhelming reboot in the alien series took form in the 2012 prequel, the angel that is Ridley Scott is back once again to try his luck. Armed once again with Michael Fassbender as his leading man, Alien: Covenant is a tale of a crew who land in uncharted territory on a deserted island. Sounds peachy right? Well this is Alien after all, so instead of spoiling it, we just suggest you just go see it.

Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales

Directed by Joachim Rønning and Espen Sandberg

Release Date: 25th May at all mainstream cinemas

The fifth installment to everyone’s favourite (but very predictable) Pirate series is finally here. Set to be the biggest box office hit of the month, Dead Men tell No Tales welcomes the return of old favorites Orlando Bloom and Keira Knightley, as well as the reason everyone (mostly me) goes to watch them, Johnny Depp. Filled to the brim with adventure, colorful characters and any problem the sea can throw at you, this next chapter is set to be everything fans have waited for and more.

Stay tuned for next month's list for highlights such as Wonderwoman and the Baywatch reboot!
