FORM and CBH are partnering to bring world class street artist Amok Island to Ravensthorpe this August to create a 25 metre high wildflower inspired mural across the three CBH silos.

The project is the next stage of a partnership between arts and cultural organisation FORM and grain exporter CBH Group which last year delivered the largest installation of urban art in Western Australia at the 38 metre CBH Avon silos in the Wheatbelt.

FORM Executive Director Lynda Dorrington said Netherlands born, WA-based urban artist Amok Island would paint three silos at the CBH Ravensthorpe site from the 22nd August.

“The design of the artwork will focus on native Western Australian wildlife and flowers to fit with the region’s strong links and connection to wildflowers,” Ms Dorrington said.  

Amok Island is a multi-disciplinary artist from Amsterdam, now based in North Fremantle, Western Australia. He said the Ravensthorpe mural would be his largest to date.

“The Ravensthorpe area is a very special place with a large amount of native plants and animals and I am excited to explore the region and draw inspiration for the artwork,” Amok Island said.

The Ravensthorpe project aims to attract more visitors to the region, particularly during the Ravensthorpe Wildflower Festival, a spectacular local event displaying up to 700 different species of flower.

CBH Group Chief Executive Dr Andy Crane said last year’s Wheatbelt project fostered a sense of community pride and the opportunity for sustainable cultural tourism in the areas in which CBH operates.

“In 2015 the CBH Group, FORM and the Northam community worked together as part of the PUBLIC 2015 program to launch PUBLIC Art in the Wheatbelt with internationally renowned street artists HENSE and Phlegm creating a series of murals across eight CBH grain silos,” he said.

“The project has had a positive impact on the profile of the region and has been showcased around the world on social and traditional media channels.”

FORM is a not-for-profit cultural organisation that facilitates PUBLIC, a festival of urban art and activation bringing world-leading street artists to Western Australia to paint laneways, walls and public spaces across the state.
