Local Feature: Jonny Taylor

If you're looking for some new music and you're not afraid to search for it outside the box- Jonny Taylor may just be the guy for you. I first met Jonny three years ago when he was playing rock country originals at our local pub, and since then I've watched him become better and better at what he was already great at as well as become a great role model for the community I grew up in. He is an excellent live performer with an incredible amount of talent, and he loves what he does- which is just as important. He is charismatic and energetic onstage and could easily hold an audience captive on his own- the backing band just adds another layer of depth to his music.

Jonny is from South Yunderup which is exactly where I grew up- it's a tiny quiet place halfway between Mandurah and Pinjarra in the Deep South of the Peel Region. Jonny and his wife and sound engineer Nicole are both absolutely lovely people who give back to the community and are constantly touring and spreading Jonny's love of performance and music throughout the entire rural Australia with his touring drummer and a keyboard player.

You may think Jonny looks familiar and that's because he hasn't been keeping quiet and he's always really busy. Jonny was in the top 12 of Australian Idol in 2008- and also on Australia's Got Talent Semi Final last year. He also made the semi final in 'Telstra Road to Tamworth' in 2010 and 2011 and was awarded the 'Best Male Artist' at the  WA Country music awards in 2011 and again this year. His song 'Never Look Back' recently won 'Best Independent Single' at the 2013 WA Country Music Awards, has been on a regular rotation on the Foxtel Country music channel and is one of my personal favourites since it was released last year.

As well as having two EP's floating around, Jonny released his last official album 'Insights' in March of 2011 and he is currently in Sydney working on his newest album. This was made possible through the website aptly named 'Pozible'- we posted a link to that last month encouraging fans to donate to Jonnys album fund. Happily he reached his target in the nick of time- allowing him to fly to Sydney and record more music for us to enjoy- Jonny is probably in the studio as I write this! I've been reliably informed we can expect the next album 'Something to Say' May 31st or June 1st this year, and that Matt Fell- who is a Golden Guitar winner and ARIA nominated producer- has been involved with the project. The album is about telling real life stories of underdogs and survivors and if his newest single is anything to go by- its going to be incredible.

Jonny and band at the single launch

Jonny has just released his newest single in the form of a video clip. It's called 'You'll Never Break Me' and it was launched at the Redcliffe Barn in Pinjarra on the 7th of April. The single is unfortunately about a true story where a friend of Jonny's began a relationship with a younger man. Everything was fine at first until they became embroiled in a horrible story of domestic abuse, culminating in this man attempting to kill his girlfriend. He believed he had- and killed himself. The lady lived to tell the tale and become a survivor and now with the help of Jonny and his storytelling skills through music they are spreading the anti violence message through Australia. With the help of the White Ribbon organisation, the 400 people at the launch including Jonny- who is a White Ribbon Ambassador- swore an oath against domestic violence. All money raised from the launch was donated to charity. You can view Jonny's video clip!
