Lillium Stargazer - 'Ladybird EP'

These days you can’t get much for $5. You can get two newspapers, two of those Cadbury fundraiser chocolates, a vaccination for a kid with polio, two and a half things at the two dollar shop OR you can get Lillium Stargazer's new EP 'Lady Bird’. Guess which one I got?

‘Lady Bird’ is a three track EP that showcases the six piece perfectly. I had a little trouble getting the CD to play on my stereo (issues in the studio when printing the CD??) but other than that it’s 15ish minutes that definitely aren’t wasted.

The first track is called- you guessed it- Ladybird. It’s a good strong opener with almost an underwater grungey feel which I really liked. There’s a cool sporadic effect on Lilly’s vocals which was awesome but I felt like they should have been more front and centre in the mix as at times I struggled to hear what was going on. There’s a great breakdown at the end of this track which was actually pretty cool and it morphed into a really sonic space type feel which left me with a great happy feeling.

Problems (With the Weather) is a great upbeat track that gave me The Who vibes. I totally got into this guitar sound- it’s really great, and went well with the big drum sound. Again, I wanted the vocals to come up a little but I absolutely loved the end of the track.

Cellophane Boy is the perfect end to this EP. The vocals sat really well, almost right in your face and I loved how that sounded, there’s some really cool vocal layering as well towards the end of the track which is quite well done. It’s a really well written song which gets better as you go along and it really doesn’t feel like 5 plus minutes. The bass in this song is super tight, and was a really enjoyable listen.

You can pick up Lady Bird from Fat Shans or alternatively jump on the internet and download it here.
