Since 2007, Origin has grown to be one of Perth’s largest festivals, and has attracted some of the biggest names in music. Each year Origin has expanded it's lineup to bring the people of Perth the freshest acts from around the world. So if you’re stuck for something to do on New Year’s, Origin has you covered. Here are just some of the headline acts helping to celebrate 10 year milestone of Origin NYE

Bursting onto the rap scene in 2013, Chance the Rapper introduced listeners to his style which intertwined both singing and rapping. The Chicago emcee’s witty and unconventional lyrical content appealed to both rap and mainstream music fans. Chance the Rapper has since gone from strength-to-strength, collaborating with the likes of Justin Bieber, Kanye West, and Future.

Drum & Bass royalty Calyx and TeeBee also bring their high energy style of music down-under, to headline Origin NYE 2016. The duo has been creating their unique style of drum & bass since 2006. Fans of the drum and bass pioneers would know Calyx and TeeBee have released numerous albums over the years, which incorporate a large range of musical styles. Armed with a decade of hits, Calyx and TeeBee will surely get the crowd jumping.

A truly gifted emcee, Denzel Curry never shies away from political or personal issues within his music. The Florida rapper is known for giving listeners a rare and uncensored insight into his life struggles. Although Denzel Curry is not signed to a label, his raw style of music has gained a large global following. Curry’s gritty style of hip-hop incorporates a sense of realism, which is unseen in majority of new-school hip-hop artists. Denzel Curry is at his best when he’s performing live, be sure to catch his live set at Origin NYE 2016.

It’s been said that no one does drum & bass quite like Chase & Status; the British duo are known for combining a range of hip-hop samples, garage beats, and trip-hop styles within their music. The duo will be performing all their club bangers from the multiplatinum 2011 album “No More Idiots” Chase & Status may even surprise the crowd with some new material, as the duo have a brand new album in the works. 

British artist and producer Culture Shock, is hailed as the drum & bass wonder boy. By collaborating with some of the world’s most popular artists (Rita Ora, Nero, and Netsky) this propelled Culture Shock into the mainstream. His 2011 release “City Lights” gained critically acclaimed attention within the drum & bass community. The British drum & bass artist is also known for the visual imagery that accompanies his music. Culture Shock’s live sets are a real feast for the human senses, and highlight why he’s one of the drum & bass industries biggest names.

Homegrown talent George Maple will bring upbeat pop/R&B musical style to Origin 2016. The now L.A. based singer, songwriter has amassed a huge online following due to her soulful vocal ability paired with electronic instrumentals. What set’s George Maple apart from your average mainstream pop-star, is her ability to craft modern songs, with a timeless appeal. Whenever she returns to Australia George Maple is greeted with sold out shows; the singer is also in huge demand in Europe, so see her live while you can.

 
 

It wouldn’t be an Origin New Year’s Eve festival without Perth’s own ShockOne. The Perth drum & bass artist has gained huge success with his latest E.P “In This Light”. Shock One’s distinctive musical style is what makes the Perth artist a crowd favorite; with his extensive body of work, ShockOne is never short of hits. No doubt ShockOne’s major 2011 hit “Chaos Theory” will be a crowd favorite. This particular track gained the dubstep artist a huge amount of success throughout Australia, and even allowed ShookOne to break into the UK dubstep scene.
