Review: Northbridge Brewing Company

On Saturday night, a few friends and I went to check out the latest (and arguably coolest) venue in Northbridge, the Northbridge Brewing Company. Located on the edge of the Piazza on Lake St, Northbridge Brewing Company is a formidable sight, with a rooftop bar offering city views while you drink. The bar was constructed using recycled materials, making use of floorboard from Perry Lakes Stadium and a giant beam salvaged from the former Ford factory in North Fremantle.

Northbridge Brewing Company is an impressive building, with a plethora of seating options and heaters galore (which were definitely appreciated). The current menu is a little lacking, but will be expanding as they establish themselves. Currently, the only options are appetizers, pizza and burgers. As appetizers, we tried the pork crackling (more reminiscent of pork flavoured prawn crackers), onion rings (srsly delish) and an $8 serve of thick cut chips that probably could have been double the size for that price. I settled for a roast pumpkin and haloumi pizza that was pretty good, and we also tried ‘The Caveman’, which is a meat-soaked pizza that (strangely) came with barbeque sauce on the side. The Angus beef burger was a little small for $18, looking more like something that would cost you $8 at Jus or Flipside.

The beer brewed at Northbridge Brewing Company has been crafted by Master Brewer Ken Arrowsmith (famed creator of Emu Bitter). Currently available is a Lager, Pale Ale or Wheat beer. We tried the Lager and the Wheat beer, both were pretty bloody nice (wheat beer is a fave of mine) and definitely worth a second visit. However if you’re after a cheap drink, Northbridge Brewing Company is not the place, with most pints over $11.

Northbridge Brewing Company is a great new venue for Northbridge, and a very nice one at that. I would probably wait until they’ve ironed out a few kinks/released the full menu before eating there again, but for a (albeit pricey) drink? It’s fantastic.
